Carney’s Liberals are ramming through an omnibus bill: C-5. The “Polluters First” Bill will let Big Business bulldoze our democracy, environmental protections, and Indigenous rights for profit. It is rushed and reckless. People in Canada want real climate action and solutions to the affordability crisis — but Bill C-5 is a blatant power grab that puts polluters first and leaves communities, workers, and ecosystems behind.

Allies across the country and experts on environmental legislation, have pinpointed some key amendments: Ensure that the duty to Free and Prior Consent of Indigenous communities is upheld in this bill; Remove the provisions that give broad authority to the Cabinet to bypass laws meant to safeguard Canadians, nature, and the climate; Revise the bill to ensure that all projects and assessments comply with—or exceed—the requirements set out in Canada’s foundational environmental legislation; And ensure meaningful public involvement in decision-making: incorporate public participation mechanisms and mandate the Minister to release all relevant information and advice to the public.
