There is a finer view on this detour at the Reed Sea which itself stands for the precarious state of an #intersex being in ancient times. The demand for dryer conditions seems to have encouraged male intersex genital mutilation. #StopIGM 2/2

Israel is led on a detour out of Egypt, the way through the wilderness at the Reed Sea (Exodus 13:17–18).
The detour is male IGM as an interim stage before taking the promised land — a metaphor for the own body, and for claiming the right to bodily integrity and bodily autonomy. #StopIGM 1/2

Jacob’s prison was male #intersex genital mutilation, under the rule of Nebuchadnezzar; Egypt is exposed and represents female IGM (Jer 46:24–25).

Interpreting Joseph’s ketonet pasim—the hemmed robe—in Genesis 37:3 requires isolating its scriptural layer 37:1–3, which is descriptive and non-dramatic. Here the garment can be read as male IGM!
