Spring lasted one album and then broke up, leaving some formative tracks in the can. They achieved a sort of legendary status due to their #Tron use, but that didn't carry them that far.
Weirdly, no one knew where the Spring Mk II ended up. #Streetly had no idea either, but they knew the serial
#McCartney for £10K some years ago. Noel #Gallagher thinks he has it. At least two private collectors think they have it. The problem is that they are all wrong.
According to the records at #Streetly, Abbey Road studios hired the machine in for the duration of the #Beatles
could be sold. Mason didn't want it back, and #Streetly wanted someone 'prestigious' to have it. Some names were bandied about, but I had one in mind.
At that time I was running a mailing list for #BeachBoys fans and collectors, and one of the people on the list was Brian Wilson's (then PA).
Is it time to roll out my #BrianWilson story? I suppose it might be.
Many years ago, I was down visiting the guys at #Streetly when In saw that they had a rickety old black piano finished Mellotron in. It was in a right old state - the keys were all over the place and the tapes were in a jumble.

Yep, this is genuine. The guys at #Streetly picked up the Mellotron Mk II from the messiah's preserved house where it was in his preserved office. It was nearly pristine, but they renovated it anyway. I actually played it and it sounded great, which was no surprise.
Really marginal stuff here, but I actually own the Bb key used in the main #Starless intro from the 'Red' #Mellotron as the one on my M400 was twisted and #Streetly swapped them over. (The also had #Fripp's machines in storage, including the #Poseidon machine and one covered in blue carpet...)
