This cover for the young adult fantasy novel, Howl's Moving Castle, simply shows the title and the name of author Diana Wynne Jones against a purple and green background--only, not so simply, on closer examination. The author's name is in a fanciful hand-lettered font full of swoopsp and loops. The title is even more rococo, as every letter is embellished with elements of the story in sillhouette, from the wizard with his long hair and trailing sleeves and coat-tails billowing around him, to the fire demon cackling, castle turrets streaming steam, the scarecrow looming, a mop and bucket, a guitar, a spool of thread, a mermaid, Sophie sitting sewing and a spool of thread unwinding in and out, bubbles and a bathtub, bottles of potions, a human skull, and several sundry spiders and their webs; all elements of the story that are fun to find when you know where each fits in. Also in smaller type at the bottom are the words, "Now an animated movie by Studio Ghibli."
