Ethnic tensions between Armenians & Azerbaijanis began well before the wars. The #SumgaitPogrom began on #ThisDayInHistory in 1988, with mobs of #Azerbaijanis in #Sumgait killing #Armenians in both their homes & the streets. The #USSR admitted 32 killed but it is likely over 200.
