#SumnerTh #MTC Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare’s extremely funny proto-rom-com, set in a wannabe upmarket Melb: production impressive, Alison Bell great, Miela Anich amazing in drag king mode. But Fayssal Bazzi is mannered & it seems too desperate to be funny, which isn’t enough. Disappointing.

#SumnerTh #MTC Rebecca. More the book than the film, with astonishing Kip Williams-like staging, but instead of his piercing, cruel characterisations, Sarks is softer & more forgiving. But it reduces the thrilling tensions & ambiguities developed by Hitchcock due to production Code restrictions.

#MTC #SumnerTh The Almighty Sometimes. I saw this amazing play 6(!) years ago at #Griffin Sydney and it deserves a new production here. The performances are excellent and the subject matter is as sharp and relevant as ever. If only I hadn’t drunk one-too-many of John’s gins before…
