Electricity disrupted in KP due to continuous rain PESHAWAR: Residents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) watched their houses plunge in darkness due to the electricity going out. The electric supply across the province was disrupted by continuous rain that began on Wednesday. **Read more:** _Strong winds batter Islamabad, Rawalpindi_ According to a spokesperson from the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), many areas are experiencing disruptions in electricity supply. Residents in Swat, Bannu, Swabi and Mansehra were left without electricity following the torrential weather. The PESCO spokesperson reported that 37 of the company’s feeders have tripped, and 26 feeders are currently closed due to faults caused by the weather. Areas such as Sethi Town, Tajabad, Daudzai, Dala Zak, Karim Pura and Pir Bala are among the most impacted by the outages. PESCO staff are ‘actively’ engaged in efforts to restore power to the affected regions, reportedly working  to address the faults and bring electricity back. The situation in the KP is reflective of a broader issue facing the energy-starved Pakistan, where shortages have become a persistent issue for decades.  The country has been grappling with a growing demand for electricity, which has outpaced supply. Factors contributing to the energy crisis include aging inftastcuture, insufficient investment in power generation, and a reliance on limited mix of energy sources. Pakistan’s population also exploded in recent decades, with more people from the rural areas migrating to urban for better lives. The country’s energy sector has struggled to meet the needs of its mushrooming populace, leading to frequent power outages that started in mid-2000s. Successive governments made efforts to address the issue but it was not enough. Despite being the primary electricity distribution company in KP, PESCO’s reach is limited as cities in the north-western province balloon at an unprecedented rate. **Read more:**_Rain brings the chill back in Peshawar_ Established to manage the distribution of electricity, PESCO has faced its own set of challenges; this includes financial constraints and operational inefficiencies.  The company has been working to improve its services and reduce outages, but the ongoing issues with infrastructure and weather-related disruptions continue to hinder its efforts.

Swabi Jalsa: Junaid Akbar’s audio leak exposes false attendance claims by workers PESHAWAR: An audio of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar has been leaked over social media. In the audio, Akbar can be heard saying that PTI workers have submitted false claims over attendance statistics of Swabi jalsa. On February 8, PTI held a rally in Swabi to commemorate one-year anniversary of the General Elections, which the opposition party claims were rigged. Junaid Akbar had been elevated to the party’s presidential presidency days before the rally, replacing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. Swabi protest: Junaid Akbar asks PTI workers for rally headcount After the rally, Akbar sought reports from PTI workers and office holders on the number of people that were brought to the rally. Now, the audio leak reveals that false attendance reports have been submitted by party workers as well as PTI’s provincial and national assembly members, for Swabi jalsa. “90 percent of PTI officials shared wrong information about Swabi rally,” Akbar says in the audio. He also says, “I have my reports, I know each and every one of them. MPAs, MNAs and officials made false statements regarding statistics. The purpose of sharing the collected reports [and publishing them] on social media was to tell the workers how honest your leadership is. Whoever made false statements should be ashamed.” Inside story of Gandapur’s removal as PTI KP president Akbar says in the audio that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is his turf and he is well aware of who brought how many workers to the rally. He says that by making these reports public, the workers and voters of the party will also come to know how honest the leadership and officials are. “I have the reports, I will hand them over to [PTI founder and former chairman] Imran Khan,” Junaid Akbar says, adding, “I even know who wore what clothes in the rally”. He reveals that some party members have sent him videos from previous events in Islamabad and other programs. “Do they think I am stupid?” Akbar lashes out in the audio, before going on to say that the presidency position is neither his desire nor compulsion nor a need for him. “It is a responsibility that the Imran Khan has given [to me]. I would be happy if this responsibility is taken back from me,” Akbar says. Sher Afzal Marwat needs to respect party discipline PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President said that unfortunately groups have formed in the party and wrong people are being supported. He pledges that he will not support any ‘wrong’ person, no matter how influential they may be. “If I cannot stick to my word, I will leave the position,” Junaid Akbar says in the leaked audio.

Swabi protest: Junaid Akbar asks PTI workers for rally headcount PESHAWAR: “Swabi rally proved to be a public referendum against the fake government,” said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Spokesperson Barrister Saif. He said, “People across the country made it clear that the public mandate was robbed on February 8.” He was speaking in relation to the protest rally organised by the PTI yesterday in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The opposition party initially planned to hold the protest in Lahore at Minar-e-Pakistan, but later decided to gather in Swabi. Barrister Saif said, “Last night proved to be extremely heavy for Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and the entire PML-N [Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz].” https://humenglish.com/pakistan/mehr-bano-shah-others-arrested-during-protest/ He said that even in Punjab, where the PML-N is in power, people came out in large numbers despite all the “high-handed tactics”. He alleged that the PTI workers are being rounded up in Punjab for the past one week, on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Despite this, he said, people are steadfastly standing with PTI founder and former chairman Imran Khan. “The end of the fake government will be ensured with the power of the people,” Barrister Saif said. #### PTI WORKERS' PERFORMANCE REPORT SOUGHT PTI’s newly appointed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar also spoke about the Swabi rally saying, “I am grateful to everyone for the great rally.” https://humenglish.com/politics/imran-khan-writes-again-to-army-chief-laments-silence-on-first-letter/ He has also sought report from PTI’s district presidents, general secretaries and tehsil nazims about the number of people they had brought to the rally. “All officials should share the report on social media within three days,” Akbar said, adding that “A big rally was held, but I will bring a system of reward and punishment in the party.” “I will give these reports to Imran Khan. No one will be treated unfairly in the party,” Junaid Akbar said.
