THE WITCHES' REBELLION
1692
Oh, how quickly the winds of fate change!
Merely one fortnight ago I was a poverty-stricken housewife, knowing naught but piety and toil, eating fen-water and goose bones neath the yoke of my miserable husband, Jeremiah. He has used me as a footstool, thrown spoilt turnips at me to test my reflexes
"in case the Devil attacks," and regularly uses a compass to inspect my head for
"thoughts." But then the most marvelous thing happened! I was using one broom to sweep another broom (to keep both brooms clean) when a black goat, known to all as Vinegar Pete, trotted up and spake to me in the voice of an Englishman. He said that he would give me the powers to escape my husband, live a life of sin and pleasure, and crawl on the ceiling on alt fours like a wicked spider, if I so fancied. I asked if there was a downside. He said I would have to renounce all gods. I let out a sound I had never made before, which he explained was a "laugh." I liked it.
Now I have a life I never would have imagined. I have conversed with beasts and drunk blood, and 1 even have female friends! Vinegar Pete gave us the gift of "boxed wine" and
"silly straws," and we had a girls' night flying through the village and hurling newts at bald people's heads. We've even started a book club, which is a weapon consisting of a "book" tied to a
"Club" that you can beat your enemies with. I have never been so happy! Three cheers for Vinegar Pete! We shall be tying the city fathers to a stake and setting them aflame tonight just for, as Vinegar Pete says, 'funsies."

It’s like the SHE-RA AND THE PRINCESSES OF POWER obsession that took over our house in 2020 all over again! I read to 8yo and 5yo every night and 99% of the time 8yo picks THE BOOK OF BILL by Alex Hirsch. 8yo dressed as Mabel for book week, I had to draw the witches “girls’ night” 🖤
