Excerpt from: Finding my way back to you (by Angstosaur) It was raining again. This time he was able to push the lid open with his feet, displacing the debris that had built up on top. As the soft rain that cascaded on top of him it felt like baptismal waters, washing away the stains of his sins. He wept. Crawling out of the rat-chewed box, he staggered to his feet and promptly fell over. Shakily getting onto his knees, he inspected his hands that had been scraped raw on shards of glass and metal. Laughter. He heard laughter. Raising his head, he saw them, holding each other up as they guffawed at his expense. “The King betrayed by his own stupid vanity!” Claudia pointed at the shoes he was wearing. The heel had broken off on one of them. Sitting down on top of a pile of rotting trash, he pulled off the satin shoes he had danced in, arm in arm with his Louis. The rain was coming down in heavy sheets, a shroud of water, drenching his hair and what was left of the clothes he had been wearing. Clambering over the rubble he saw she had gone, but Louis was still there. Standing, his head tilted to one side as if wondering what Lestat would do next. He was perfectly dry, not a curl of hair out of place, or a spot of rain on his suit. Louis did not follow him as he walked down rain-soaked streets towards the centre of the city.

The 1st volume of TdV collected thousands of dollars for two blood charities in New Orleans. It was a wonderful snapshot of where the fandom creativity is at between s1 & s2.
