Earlier this month I had the opportunity to attend one of my favourite meetings #TMM2025 thanks to the @stemcellnetwork.ca
Thanks to @stemcellnetwork.ca for a fantastic #TMM2025 conference.
Highlights:
🎉 Celebrating our partnership with SCN @breakthrought1dca.bsky.social
📝 Learning about regenerative medicine updates in #T1D
💭 Thought-provoking sessions on science funding, policy, and commercialization
what an ending with iNeurons by Dr. Carol Schuurmans. it was a great experience witnessing cutting-edge stem cell research in Canada. Next Vancouver! #TMM2025
Thanks again to @stemcellnetwork.ca, and all the speakers, poster presenters, and attendees at #TMM2025 - was a delight to be part of this wonderful event!

Thanks to all sponsors and participants—see you next year in Vancouver!
Exciting keynote talk at #TMM2025 by Christine Mummery on modeling arrhythmia using stem cell- derived cardioids!
#TMM2025 #StemCellResearch @stemcellnetwork.ca
Gupta Lab's image of stem cell- derived neuroepithelium is displayed at #TMM2025. didn't win though 😭 congratulations to all the winners, beautiful pics of wonderful world of stem cells.
great start of day 3 at #TMM2025 with a talk by Neurona therapeutic on major advances in epilepsy treatment with stem cell- derived interneurons! things are getting excited!
(2/2) Thank you to all speakers and participants for joining us today. We can’t wait for tomorrow! ✨
And a special thanks to our sponsors for making #TMM2025 possible!
(1/2) Day 2 at #TMM2025 was full of inspiration! 👏
👶 Alicia Racine & Mike Cogan shared their story from a world-first SCN lung trial
✨ Congratulations to Dr. Maria Cristina Nostro (Till & McCulloch Award) and Brandon Murareanu (Drew Lyall Award)
🔬 Plenaries, workshops, poster talks, and more!
Always love coming to Till and McCulloch meetings thanks to the @stemcellnetwork.ca One of my favourite communities and always exciting science 🥳
#TMM2025
AR: MC: BT met with us and other families multiple times, humanizes the study. AR: There was never any pressure. #TMM2025
JV: What do wish scientists understood about what it's like to be a patient. MC: Patience is huge. We don't have the years of research and training you have. We're in stressful situations and it takes time to absorb the opportunity you're presenting to us. #TMM2025
Q on Phase II trial. BT: Can't give an placebo IV to newborns in the control group so this is an extra challenge for blinding. Something about masking on the ventilator #TMM2025
Huge congratulations to my colleague Dr Cristina Nostro for the Till & McCulloch Award at #TMM2025 Such a well deserved recognition! @uhnresearch.ca
@stemcellnetwork.ca
JV: What would you say to other families looking to participate in a groundbreaking trial. MC: There are a lot of risks in a situation like this. The reward is big. AR: You have to be patient. #TMM2025
MC: She's a daredevil, she likes to run around. We're raising her in both official languages and she understands turns of phrase. AR: She doesn't know that she's the strongest person we're ever going to meet. #TMM2025
What was it like bringing Emmy home? AR: It was surreal. Was in pediatrics unit for a month before discharge. #TMM2025
JV: What happened when they asked you about the clinical trial? MC: AR has a neonatologist in the family and I know a stem cell biologist and they had nothing but good things to say about Dr. Bernard and the work he was putting into this #TMM2025
AR: MC: She tried to cry out with the little strength she had, they took her to the NICU and took three tries to ventilate her before they succeeded. #TMM2025
AR: Water broke at 22 weeks, extreme prematurity. NICU team gave option of tender loving care or resuscitation with mechanical ventilation. Opted to give her a fighting chance. Born at 23 weeks. #TMM2025
AR: Emmy, say "hi, friends". EC: Hi friends #TMM2025
Patient presentation with Baby Emmy Cogan, Alicia Racine, Mike Cogan #TMM2025 🧪
BT: Now Phase II trial ULC-II with intention to treat analysis, much bigger cohort #TMM2025
BT: Phase I trial. ULC-I: Helping underdeveloped lungs with cells. Observation group n=12, intervention group n=9. #TMM2025
BT: So you want to give stem cells to babies? Survey of parents and neonatologists. Parents were overall eager to participate in the study. [what did the neonatologists say?] #TMM2025
BT: INCuBAToR for safely and timely clinical translation of cell therapy. #TMM2025 stemcellsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/sctm.20...
BT: Clinical translation of potentially life-saving therapies is unacceptably slow and often fails. #TMM2025
BT: Umbilical cell-MSCs with superior lung repair capacity: MSC 2.0 #TMM2025
