They lay in their shared bed, Rook long having abandoned the meditation room's uncomfortable chaise lounge. The post coital haze hangs thick over their sticky, sweltry bodies. The pair both still half drunk from the victory party, heads swimming, dreamy in the heady scent of whiskey and lovemaking. Elgar'nan is dead. The Veil remains unsundered and maintained by the blood seal of Dread Wolf with the reassurance of his beloved. There is so much to celebrate… and yet guilt pangs hot, with the sharp slit of a rusty knife against Riven's ribs. Tasting acrid and metallic on their palate. "I would have run," Riven breathes into Taash's throat. A hot, fast admission of guilt. Tears sting in their eyes and they bury their tattooed visage against the soft skin of the qunari's throat. "If not for you." Taash swallows thickly, tired eyelids rising in lazy, slow blinks as they peer affectionately, confusedly, down at their little elvhen. "What?"

Riven gulps, considers recanting, distracting their partner from their incriminating words with a deft, well placed hand on the inner thigh… But they resist these impulses, because in truth they regret nothing. And they confess more clearly, "Before the dragons… before you came out to me… I packed a bag. I was going to run away. I didn't think I could do it." Taash blinks their bleary emerald eyes, arms tightening protective around Riven's small body. Like they might dissipate into mist and vanish at any moment. "Don't say that," Taash says finally, sternly, but with an edge of horror at the realization that they were the only thing which ultimately stood between Thedas and the sundering of the Veil. "Its true," Riven kisses their neck. "I wanted a world for you. After you told me that you were non-binary, like me. You're just so… Taash, you're beautiful. And I knew you were my person. And if I abandoned you I'd be so much more than a coward. Nothing matters but you." "Shut up," Taash murmurs weakly into their crown. Their arms tighten even more around the elf, squeezing them. Their teeth grind almost painfully as their jaw works; physically processing this information.

And maybe its wrong. Maybe its sick that a small part of them likes that Riven saved the world for them. While their moral compass screams that the little Rook is simply insane. Taash, ordinarily, has a strong sense of justice. Of right and wrong with little room for the grey spaces in-between. But that's exactly what Riven is; the in-between. The mortar that has seeped into the cracks and crags of the Dragon Hunter's wounded heart and made them whole again. For them. For Rook. They will make this one allowance. Because they love Riven. Enough to damn the whole world? Hopefully the tides of fate will never put that thought to the test. Riven kisses their lips, soft, lingering, "You're it, Taash. You're all that there is for me." The qunari exhales sharply, hiding their face in the elf's pale blonde hair. "I love you." Riven utters, shakily. Taash answers them with a searing kiss.
