Working with missing data was a common issue. These are my go-to strategies:

1) For dates, use 'Show Missing Values' to create marks.

2) For other dimensions, use Table Layout > Show Empty Rows / Columns to show missing headers.

The only answer I regularly copy & paste is a quick start list of free resources to learn Tableau. Most will be familiar to #datafam members. As Tableau has launched learning paths, some of the old resources are getting harder to find.
