AWS & CF are great option for infrastructure - but not for a Social Platform like #TalkShop.
I have done the math - Upto 10K users, using AWS is a great way to serve our target market!
Beyond that, it is cheaper to setup our own Dedicated server clusters! But we will get there!
When we started, we had collected $2475 of the $7000 we needed to get off the ground.
buymeacoffee (and Twitter/Bsky) crowdfunding worked but not completely!
This move to more scalable servers is a necessary step to keep the #TalkShop dream alive!

Dont know how Xwitter does it, But I am going to literally take a "snapshot" of the post/url and render that whenever it is shared in another post.

For eg. Twitter introduced #Snowflakes in 2009? I knew about it but never considered it for use in any of my projects!

#TalkShop works on the subscription model. A very low annual subscription fee of $25. This will enable folks to follow a Threshold Number "T" followers (say 100).
They can follow more, but for every 100 additional people they follow, they will pay an additional $5 fee annually.
Xwitter works around this by assigning "weight" to Posts to control the order in which posts are rendered.
We understand that and we can do that - technically not a big deal!
But that would violate the very concept of organic Feeds that got us together to develop #TalkShop!
Xwitter API injects ~200 posts into your Browser/App in one iteration.
In #TalkShop tests, we were injecting 1K posts in each "iteration" but this slowed down the App considerably!
Reduced it to a lower number. Instantly number of user posts "lost" in the conversation tripled!
People on Xwitter are following 1000s of people each and each of them are following 1000s more! Its not organic and more importantly, leads to "throttling".
Ultimately, an App like #TalkShop or Xwitter has to make compromises between speed, usability and bandwidth limitations.
One of the advantages of going through the entire #TalkShop development cycle - finally figuring why certain Xwitter features dont work the way they are supposed to work!
Time to lay atleast some of those conspiracy theories about "reach" to rest!

Another great idea implemented this week for #TalkShop - Late switch in original DB/API to use "Snowflakes" pioneered by original pre-Musk Twitter!
Definite performance overhead, but balanced by the benefits!
Credit where credit due - We all owe a lot to the original Team!
To summarise: His great plan is to see what we do for #TalkShop, then use cheap labor from some Indian sweatshop to copy it frame by frame and launch a COPY!

Wrote a simple Webservice in #GoLang to evaluate performance vv our #Java Service for #TalkShop - just 2 functions checkUserHandle() & createUser() for now.
First thoughts - Easy to Develop and deploy! Developed test API in under 3 hours. Deployment & config took <5 mins! π
For us, choice for writing the API was between PHP - in which original #TalkShop API was written in 2019 - & CORE Java.
#GoLang definitely looked promising due to its performance and better low level control.
But me and my team are all #CoreJava folks! There would be a learning curve with GoLang!
