So why is @gwr.com planning to upgrade the #Exeter/Barnstaple #TarkaLine w/'newer #diesel' instead of *rapid-charging system [that] works by installing huge trackside batteries - cheaper than fitting overhead wires*

2/2 appalled by 'new' diesels along #TarkaLine #Exeter-#Barnstaple route. Low bridges across the rural Devon line has been the excuse for no electrification but that's hardly the case for battery-powered trains. Maybe a letter @northdevongazette.bsky.social from you re battery-powered trains? 🙏
