"This tartan was designed for the American College of Dentists and is intended to be a visual emblem of fellowship and service. It was based on the College’s official colours, lilac and American rose, set on a blue ground with red and white to echo the flag of the United States. A red and white houndstooth band references the College’s four pillars - ethics, professionalism, leadership, and excellence - and its eight Regencies, while also intended to suggest ‘teeth’ in the cloth. Two lilac stripes total twenty threads to mark 1920, the year of the College’s founding, and to recall the colours of convocation sashes."

From the description in the registry: "has stripes of 10 & 100 as the metric system is based on tens. There are 7 colours within the design in reference to the 7 base units of the metric system"...
