I wonder why J.K. Simmons is even in this? Also the end credits music was an American song which was so wrong. So I'm getting that sinking feeling like I had with #Tatau that the paymasters interfered to make this relevant to Americans.

Do I recommend?

I think this is very strong in places and well made but I can't be a hypocrite and recommend this after the colossal F up they made in bringing English culture into this and not New Zealanders. However good this is it can't overcome that shallow cop out.

The finale is strong. The Rapture and the priest's ideas were not what was going on but rather ancient myth was being fulfilled. The myth was briefly alluded to in part one but might've been mentioned more though I appreciate the Rapture was a fine red herring.

Why hold does the Priest have over the smugglnig ring in any case? The Maori biker gang haven't found religion so I'm not sure how the very underdeveloped rapture plot and the over developed pear smuggling plot meet in terms of story. That's for final part to make clear.

Had been a series about Lara undercover with pearl smugglers it would've been a lot better IMHO.
Cop Lara is even hotter.
Budgie returning was fun but how much cash have they that they can fly to Sydney. That's well over $1000 at short notice let alone for 2 planes.

If this show was bad I would just shrug and move on but as it's quite good I can only imagine the misery the Pacific Islanders and New Zealanders had to to through to see this fine idea get destroyed by an Anglocentric filter no matter how hard it tries.

Ignoring any issues relating to the English characters as nobody watching this should give an F about them as they shouldn't even be in it, so the crime element is already well advanced hence I'm unsure if that is the main story. It can't just be about a pearl smuggling ring?

The sad thing about this show is that it would be good had it not decided to kill itself in the first instance with English leads.
Good performances by NZ/Islanders esp Cian Elyse White.
I'm not sure where this is headed as yet as it's covered a lot of ground already.

This should be good. It is not for one reason. The two English character should not be in this because Cook Islands has no cultural meaning to the Brits. This is clerarly a NZ written show and should've had white New Zealanders as the leads to give it meaning.

It looks great and we are in the Cook Islands inside a minute so it's not like it's about the contrast between nations.
The form of Christianity shown is clearly one that is mixed with the native religions. This might mean some value if that conflict is drives the narrative.

The two English are the sort of wanks you'd knife in Temple Bar if you met them drunk. So I don't get this. As a viewer you don't want those English personas anyway near this. Ok maybe it'll delve intelligently into colonist vs native spiritual differences. We'll see.

The massive problem I have watching this is the one I had when I first saw the posters. Why are the two English actors even in this? It feels morally wrong having two white actors as leads in this. The BBC really messed up here as thisl fees really uncomfortable.
