For anyone else looking for #Rcode to analyse #TeabagIndex decomposition rates, I ended up modifying Aud Halbritter's code from GitHub: github.com/audhalbritte...

Tea Bag Index: a novel approach to collect uniform decomposition data across ecosystems Changes in the balance between soil carbon storage and release can significantly amplify or attenuate global warming. Although a lot of progress has been made in determining potential drivers of c...

#Rstats and #soil / #microbe folks, do you have code or package recommendations for calculating #TeabagIndex decomposition rates?

I found a few decomp packages but they seem overly complex for this comparatively simple task.

Figure 1 in Bouma et al. (2025): "A Map of the location of Oostvaardersplassen in the Netherlands and B the sampled locations in Oostvaardersplassen for the four distinguished environmental conditions. For the wetland area (orange and blue delineated; the middle crossing indicates the location of the dam that separates the two main parts hydrologically), the map indicates the water areas (blue areas) and the reed/willow dominated areas (yellow areas). The locations follow a full-factorial design based on (1) the implementation of a water level drawdown (yes or no) and (2) the presence of perennial vegetation (yes or no) (C–F). In both the treatments without perennial vegetation (C and E), an exclosure is used to protect the tea bags and reed litter bags from respectively benthivorous fish, mainly common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and red deer (Cervus elaphus) disturbances."
