Progress so far.... they've now raked off the top layer and are replacing with new reed. You avoid removing all thatch as the lowest layer packs down over time forming a thick matted weatherproof layer - my underlayer could be over 200 years old this end of the house 😍 #ruralcrafts #thatchedhouses
