I've been exploring 1971 in film and tonight watched #TheAndersonTapes (dir. Sidney Lumet) on @criterionchannl.bsky.social. Incredible cast with Sean Connery, Dyan Cannon, Martin Balsam and Christopher Walken. An unconventional caper film with a message on the pervasiveness of modern surveillance.
#TheAndersonTapes: After 10 yrs in jail, Duke Anderson is released and plans to rob an entire apartment building.
There's a lot to like: the heist stuff; Connery's perf; Quincy's score; small appearance by pre-SNL Garrett Morris.
But the surveillance stuff is bad enough to dampen the experience.
The thing I remember best about #TheAndersonTapes is that it gave me a chance to see how Margaret Hamilton (AKA The Wicked Witch of the West) looked 30+ years after The Wizard of Oz! @TalkingPicsTV , 9.45pm
