A snippet from a story by elinorbard featured in the Dead Three Fanzine. The text reads: She crept after the older girl, slinking and skulking as she had been taught. She hid herself while Grandfather spoke of the temple’s history and the assassins demonstrated their skill. Every time the butler led the newcomer out of the temple to teach her the ways through the Undercity, Orin followed. The girl had done nothing but observe. She had not proved her cleverness with a blade or zeal for the art of murder. She only watched, her face as still as the underground lake, its surface sleek and inscrutable. If she had not begun to join their prayers, speaking in perfect rhythm as if she had known the words all her life, Orin would have suspected she was mute. Orin was lurking in an Undercity ruin when she caught her first glimpse of her true self. The butler was talking, always talking, about the generations of devotees that had come before them. The girl’s brow creased as her attention flew elsewhere. Orin wondered what she thought about. She wondered so intently that her foot slipped, sending a scattering of rock sliding down the path behind her. The older girl stilled and pivoted. “Sceleritas,” she commanded. In a flash, the wretched imp was at Orin’s side, twisting her arm and smiling as he wrenched her out of the deepest shadow.
