Bedrock opens The Department at Hudson's event venue Bedrock has opened its latest event venue, The Department at Hudson’s, with 56,000 square feet covering more than 15 meeting and event spaces at Hudson’s Detroit. The Department is available to book for events and gatherings in downtown Detroit, the firm said Wednesday. “Detroit is known as a top destination for events, conferences and gatherings, and The Department at Hudson’s is the perfect setting to welcome guests from near and far,” Ivy Greaner, Bedrock chief operating officer, said in a release. “With downtown as its backdrop, Bedrock has created a collection of flexible spaces to experience event excellence.” The announcement comes one week after the space held its first event, Detroit’s State of the City address by Mayor Mike Duggan, who spoke in one of the halls of The Department. The opening is part of the latest developments in the 1.5 million-square-foot project, which is approaching completion. The two-building complex will also feature ground-floor retail and modern office spaces, including the new global headquarters of General Motors Co. The skyscraper will include the Detroit EDITION hotel and The Residences at The Detroit EDITION, a collection of high-rise condominiums. Marriott International is managing the sales and marketing of The Department’s event spaces, while Forte Belanger will manage and be the exclusive food and beverage provider. “We are excited to collaborate with Bedrock on this groundbreaking development, helping to bring unparalleled experiences to life for The Department’s guests,” Julius Robinson, chief operations officer for U.S. West, Marriott International, said in a statement. “Our sales and marketing teams, along with Forte Belanger, are poised to provide exceptional, high-touch service, leveraging our global reach, deep expertise in the luxury and lifestyle space and commitment to outstanding customer service.” The Department spans three floors of the development and sits next to the upcoming Detroit EDITION hotel and The Residences at The Detroit EDITION. SHoP Architects designed the space, which has 15 customizable spaces to accommodate seated or strolling events. Features of the space include: wrap-around terraces with heated flooring and uplighting providing views of downtown. It also includes advanced soundproofing to reduce ambient noise and custom dividers that allow for flexible room configurations. Designed by Theatre Projects, the audio/visual setup provides concert-quality sound, customizable AV options and the capability to stream events live around the world. Additionally, the space provides convenient street-level access for large deliveries and includes on-site commercial catering kitchens. I took a copy of #TheDepartment to Anabela, whose son took his own life 6 years ago. He was harassed to death by #DWP. After his death, his mum moved to be near the cemetery where he is buried. Asked what she would say to DWP now, she said: 'I would take them to the grave.'
