Grass cable bridge braided by the Incas and reconstructed for “The Great Inca Road: Engineering and Empire” exhibit at the Smithsonian. The Great Inca Road was more than 20,000 miles long, crossing mountains and tropical lowlands, rivers and deserts, linking the Inca empire. The road continues to serve contemporary Andean communities across Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile. In 2014, the United Nations cultural agency, UNESCO, recognized the Inca Road as a World Heritage site. The exhibit at the Museum of the American Indian ended in 2021. Washington, DC (December 2016)
