For found family, I’ll always rec C-drama #TheKingsAvatar. I’m currently rewatching as I needed something uplifting and fun.

I’m currently enjoying the very non idol, high craft drama #SwordsintoPlowshares, & Bai Yu (the ML) is excellent in this role -
but he would be completely the wrong fit for #YouAreMyGlory or #TheKingsAvatar - despite having more craft as an actor
YY isn’t stealing anyone’s roles 🤷♂️

I agree he’s not the most nuanced or expressive actor so he does fine in dramas where that isn’t an issue - like #TheKingsAvatar or #YouAreMyGlory, or even #ImmortalAscension. However, he’s not terrible enough to ruin an otherwise good drama imo, and it certainly doesn’t warrant the hate he gets.

Hehe 🙂 - for me it’s rather the opposite: I’d heard of Wang Ziqi from some of his modern romcoms, whereas the others were (& still are) mostly new faces (apparently the 2nd ML had a supporting role in #TheKingsAvatar - but I don’t remember him from it)

Chinese dramas (at least the historical and/or costume ones) do often have a lot of intrigue and murdery plots, but one modern one on Netflix that’s a delightful e-sports underdog rising to topple the establishment with heaps of found family delight that I can recommend is #TheKingsAvatar.

Mo Fan is focusing on Glory, he really is, it's not his fault that life comes and takes him out back with several life- altering experiences in short succession. When he wins against Sun Xiang - Mo Fan has an interesting encounter afterwards with him - he learns about the importance of his team and his role in it. Mo Fan makes friends and realizes he's not alone anymore. An Wenyi and Qiao Yifan give him as many happy moments as they give him trouble, and Su Mucheng is a wonderful menace. In the end he still has to figure out how important each of the people around him are to him, and if he can live with the regret of never saying anything.

One thing I didn’t like about #TheKingsAvatar is how it was “funny” Chen Guo was a bit of an asshole (and abusive) boss “because she’s a girl” like “haha look how she treats Ye Qiu like shit and threatens him lulz.” 😒 #cdrama
