Meanwhile, in terms of directors there are 2: 1 has directed shows like #StoryofYanxiPalace & #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy (which are 2 of my fave dramas); & the other #SpecialLady (a fluffy palace drama that I really liked), #TheLegendofWhiteSnake & #InaClassofHerOwn (both of which I also really liked)

I’ve seen one of the tv adaptations, the 2019 #TheLegendofWhiteSnake (with Yu Meng Long & Ju Jing Yi), but I don’t know how different the stories are. I really enjoyed the 2019 version for its aesthetic & mythic ambience, but I don’t know how faithful it is to its predecessors.

This may be irrelevant to your conversation about books, but a drama about the white snake legend that I absolutely loved for its mythic atmosphere & characterisations is the 2019 #TheLegendofWhiteSnake, with Ju Jingyi in the starring role, opposite Yu Menglong. I recommend this version.
