It’s also not a role (for Bai Lu) that requires immense ‘emotional depths’ - for that you need to see other dramas of hers, such as last year’s #Northward, #StoryofKunningPalace, #OneAndOnly, #Feud, etc - although one of my favourites of hers is a more comic role in #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy

Most of the iconic military kdramas have been name-checked, so I will instead share a light-hearted but atmospheric Republican era drama, #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy, where Xu Kai & Bai Lu play amusing but courageous amateur soldiers who train together

I agree that Tian Xiwei is great fun in this fantasy drama! (though I disagree that Xu Kai only succeeds through his looks - his role here is to look straight faced, but he can play quite different characters eg, #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy)

Still in my #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy rewatch, and I maintain 3 things:

I had a whole conversation about Arsenal football club yesterday with someone who is a kdrama expert (but who is also a fellow fan of Arsenal FC!)

She’s superb in TTEOTM, though my personal favourites of hers are the probably the currently airing #Feud, #StoryofKunningPalace, & #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy

I don’t actually remember their kiss scene in #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy - though it must be in the drama somewhere: what has stayed with me is their flirting.

However I do know there were more kiss scenes, but they were censored by the glum prudish patriots in charge of such things.

Yes - I loved that Xu Kai’s character & Bai Lu’s worked out together 🙂 (in #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy)

Meanwhile, in terms of directors there are 2: 1 has directed shows like #StoryofYanxiPalace & #ArsenalMilitaryAcademy (which are 2 of my fave dramas); & the other #SpecialLady (a fluffy palace drama that I really liked), #TheLegendofWhiteSnake & #InaClassofHerOwn (both of which I also really liked)

From memory her #ForeverandEver also ends happily (though the prelude drama #OneandOnly definitely doesn’t!)

#UntiltheEndoftheMoon has an open ending that many interpret as a happy ending (the novel ending is unambiguously happy)
