Today is World Gorilla Day.

I struggled a lot when I was writing #TheOneAndOnlyIvan. More than once, I thought about giving up. But deep down, I knew I wanted to tell his story.

I never dreamed I’d end up writing four linked novels about Ivan and his fictional friends. It was a true honor. ❤️

I'm thinking about Ivan today—he died on this date in 2012, not long after THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN was published.
