Sh 2-279 The Running Man Nebula - telescope processed image. Located just north of the Great Orion Nebula, Sh 2-279 is a striking reflection nebula that appears to "run" through the stars of Orion’s Sword.

The region near M42 includes M43 (De Mairan's Nebula), which is physically part of the same cloud complex but separated by a dust lane, and the Trapezium Cluster of hot, young stars embedded within M42.
