I enjoyed this book, though I couldn't highlight one factor or another. It's a pretty even read, in the sense that both characters, plot and setting are harmonious. Already downloaded the second and final book!

There are a couple of moments like that, when things are taken for granted and I feel the reader would make more sense of it if the character's thoughts were better explained.

A few moments that would have required more introspection, later into the book, seemed to be glossed over quite quickly. For example, when August is struggling with hunger, Kate's compassion is great, but also seemingly comes out of nowhere.

THE BAD
It's a slow start. We're well into the middle of the book before things truly begin happening. This is my first book by V.E. Schwab so I don't know if it's part of her storytelling style or not. The slow part wasn't boring, though.

The story is well written and there is nothing that comes across as purposeless. While in other books (looking at you, Iron Flame) a lot of the characters actions made me bring my hands to my head, here the plot is fluid.

August and Kate are complex characters and their journeys are opposed. August desperately wants to be human, and Kate is working really hard to become the monster her father wants her to be. Truly, theirs is a journey of acceptance.
