And there's still useful stuff in there for folks like me who came out ages ago and have mostly unpacked that baggage already.

That said, it's a chatty, accessible book full of suggestions on how to find and build community, how to set boundaries, and how to advocate for yourself, plus anecdotes that will have readers feeling seen & understood.

I'm not the target audience for this book - it's aimed at people who are newly out, or considering coming out but aren't quite there yet, and need some support around that decision. I've been out since my long-gone teens, so.

A photo of the "Carry On" book cover, against a high-contrast background. Descriptions like "friendly advice", "why we stay closetted even thoug hit hurts", "Boundaries and self-advocacy", "How to find your people", and "Real Life Examples" are written in yellow text around the outside of the book, with curly, white arrows pointing from each description to the book cover, to indicate what readers can expect from the book.
Yellow text against a high-contrast background. There is an orange rose in the bottom-right corner. The text in question also appears, in text format, in the review thread this image is part of.
Yellow text against a high-contrast background. There's an orange rose in the bottom-right corner and a frond of lavender in the upper-left corner. There's also a large, yellow QR code that will take you to the blog where I've provided a longer review of the book. The content of the yellow text is also available, in text format, in the skeet-thread this image is part of.
Okay! So I said this was coming.
#thornapplepress sent me a copy of @nillinlore.bsky.social's "Carry On: Unpacking Your Internalized Transphobic and Queerphobic Baggage" in exchange for an honest review as part of their #ThornapplePressReaderProgram.
The short version is...

So, here's my wee review of @nillinlore.bsky.social's "Carry On: Unpacking Your Internalized Transphobic and Queerphobic Baggage".

Plus it's got lots of anecdotes that will have readers feeling seen and understood, especially if they don't have many queer peers in their local social circles.

For the target audience, though, it's written in chatty, accessible language and is full of suggestions on how to find (and build) community, set boundaries, and advocate for oneself.

I'll post a link to a longer review in a few days, but for the moment:
This book is best-suited (I think) for people who either aren't out yet and are anxious about making that move, or who are in less supportive situations than I've been lucky enough to have.
#ThornapplePressReaderProgram
So I read it.
