Front cover image of the book To Exist As I Am by Grace Spence Green. It shows a doctor wearing dark pink scrubs with a stethoscope around her neck, sitting in a wheelchair facing forwards. Her dark brown hair is just visible on her shoulders but her head is out of shot of the photo.

Text says: These minute acts of care I experience daily are not only beautiful but radical. Care to me is the antithesis of capitalism. When someone lifts me into a car, helps me out of the shower, when I hold my friend’s arm to help her balance, we are not here to make a profit or a product. We are here for each other. Caring goes against everything society seems to be hurtling towards. In a world that feels like it is becoming more and more hostile to be kind is a profound act.
Just finished reading #ToExistAsIAm by @gracespencegreen.bsky.social which is an honest & thought provoking view on recovery after spinal injury, care & disability. This paragraph on care & being cared for struck a particular chord with me.
