#TodayIRead: #RedMars, a fascinating exploration of how ideologies develop and change to suit different circumstances. The setting is a lovingly created depiction of what a realistic effort to colonise Mars might look like, and feels extremely grounded, despite it's age. The story follows a fairly

#TodayIRead The Count of Monte Cristo. A classic, and for good reason. While it takes a while to get going, it really gets going. History’s most convoluted revenge plot is a masterclass in setup and pay off. On top of that, it has the strongest and most unique voice I’ve ever seen.
#TodayIRead Just finished “Yield” by C.R. Stroud @ladystroud.bsky.social Y’ALL. I am flabbergasted this is a debut novel, it’s ridiculously good and one of the best romantasies I’ve ever read — I genuinely am so impressed. GO READ IT! Then come back here to gossip 😍📚
#TodayIRead the first Mistborn trilogy. The books at first seem to be a fairly standard fantasy plot, with compelling characters, and a unique magic system. A fun read, but not the most engaging. However, the third book really pulls it all together in a way that elevates it to a true masterpiece.
#TodayIRead Discworld: Men at Arms, the second in the Discworld: City Watch series. A fun an interesting take on the conversation around guns, with a typical Pratchett flair. It does, however, encounter problems with other issues it discusses, owing, in my view, to its POV being that of police.
This is one of my favorite Discworld books. There are some very profound thoughts in it. I so love the end and how Brutha helped the Grand Inquisitor to cross the sand. I cry every time.
#TodayIRead The Shepherd's Crown. The last Discworld book.
#TodayIRead Discworld: Small Gods, a story in the excellent Discword series. Belief creating reality is a common thread in a lot of Discworld books, but this one makes that idea the whole focus, really getting into the weeds of what the experience of a god with a believer count of 1 might be like.

Saturday morning. My train is delayed enough for me to go out of my way toward the Library. As a result I missed my train.

Cover of Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy. There is a three out of five star rating below the cover. The background is a faded photo of a forest.
Book Review: Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy
This is a sweet book. Not quite cozy fantasy, but it leans in that direction. Good for if you want a light read that’s not quite turn your brain off level. #bookreview #todayiread #fantasybook 📚
#TodayIRead 'Horse' by Geraldine Brooks.
Geraldine does the most fascinating work weaving fiction using fact-her earlier 'Year of Wonders' was my first introduction to her writing. This, spread across three timelines and leaping into the world of horse racing and equestrian art, 1/2
#TodayIRead 'The Night
Guest' by Fiona McFarlane.
Perfect dark undertone research for a project I'm working on later this year. Great buildup too—I had suspicions but then that one line

#TodayIRead 'The Valley of Lost Stories' by @vanessamccausland. Deliciously twisty with a subtle darkness from the beginning that I really enjoyed. And an ensemble cast that captured a lot of the reality of modern parenting. #AmReading #WhatAmandaRead
