My poem called Paper Lanterns. … Tonight I say goodbye. To memories good and bad, to moments deep and shallow… to a love whole and sweet. Waves of flickering stars wash over me, telling me it’s time to let go. I release my paper lantern into the sea, away from the rest… To guide you back home.
This poem was inspired by a festival in Japan that is held after Obon, a Buddhist festival honoring ancestors.
One of its symbolic meanings is guiding spirits back to the afterlife.
