Namibia vehicle sales surge in April
Namibia’s new vehicle market maintained strong momentum in April, with 1 243 units sold, reflecting a 37.5% increase year-on-year from the 904 units recorded in April 2024, a latest Simonis Storm report shows.
Despite a 5.8% month-on-month decline from March’s 1 320 units, the market continues to show resilience, driven by sustained consumer demand and lower interest rates.
April is usually a quieter period for vehicle sales, often falling below the 1 000-unit mark due to post-festive spending fatigue. However, this year the market has consistently stayed above that level, signalling a shift in consumer confidence.
“Of the 1 243 vehicles sold in April, rental agencies accounted for 149 units, led by Toyota (89 units) and Volkswagen (60 units). These included 18 light commercial vehicles and 131 passenger vehicles, likely reflecting early fleet preparations for the upcoming international tourism season. The continued rise in self-drive rental demand particularly among inbound tourists supports this segment’s growth,” says economist Almandro Jansen.
