Our electricians have been working hard over the weekend to get the Jacobean staircase chandelier re-wired & working in time to reinstall before we reopen on February 14th ❤️

There's still lots to do but we're getting there! 💡

The chairs are associated with Charles 1st. Notice the faces, and the curved back rails are thought to represent the two ruffled shirts he wore to his execution in 1649, hence the name 'mortuary chair'.

…..for the collection following the acquisition of the Hall by the Council. It was bought from the proceeds of visitors leaving their sticks and umbrellas by the entrance, for the princely sum of one old penny (1d) for me this adds a certain level of charm to its story.”

has their initials and date engraved into the table. I love the large table, it’s the centre of attraction in the Great Hall and really shouts out. Our visitors are fascinated by the size of the table and how it suits the hall.”
