Banded Archerfish (Toxotes jaculatrix). This unassuming 20cm-long fish has two fascinating skills: Firepower and ability to solve light refraction. Basically archerfishes uses its tongue, its palate, and one quick closing of its operculum to shoot water upwards, knocking any small animals above the water surface off their perch for the fish to eat. But shooting something through different medium poses an issue: Refraction. Young archerfishes gather together to practice target shooting, and they learn how to calculate the right angle to compensate for light refraction. In controlled environment, archerfish can be trained to hit moving targets with >50% accuracy rate. If target shooting failed, however, they can always resort to jumping. They're practical like that.
I remember the first time I learned about archerfish back when I was 3. It was truly fascinating as to how they solve the issue of wave refraction. Still fascinating today.
