'My favourite walk is probably the Purbeck Ridgeway, from Wareham Station to Swanage. The views are spectacular, birds of prey overhead and the steam train puffing through the valley below. And on the way back, that first glimpse of Corfe Castle from the top deck of the bus is unbeatable!'

Graphic with Alex, training and development coordinator at Community Rail Network, sharing her favourite walking route: 'As a volunteer with Yorkshire Dales National Park, I used to love taking the train along the Settle to Carlisle Line to Dent Station to survey and maintain a number of paths. It’s a stunning spot and a perfect gateway to the outdoors. From Dent, I’d walk up to the Monkeybeck Grains path under Great Knoutberry Fell and enjoy the amazing views of the Three Peaks of Yorkshire and along Dentdale. I’d then head south, walking beneath the impressive Arten Gill Viaduct. Occasionally I’d go on towards Ribblehead Viaduct via Blea Moor and the tunnel chimneys, before hopping back on the train.'
