The same yr (2014) John Oliver interviewed him abt #LGBTQrights abuses in Uganda. Onziema was reportedly cynical to begin with but Oliver won his trust, intro'ing him as a trans man. The episode positively affected Onziema's reputation in Uganda, increasing his support at home.

His friends said he loved nature, camping and hiking. He also participated in & won the LA-based viral T-boy wrestling event in 2024, though his passion was trans community. Friends remembered him as a trailblazer and a “kind and beautiful force” for the world
