Raised in Massachusetts, Bullens was already performing backing vocals in his teens, including for Gene Clark & Don Everly. At 20, he had credited backing vocals on Rod Stewart's Atlantic Crossing (1975) & by 21 began touring with Elton John.

Alexander James Adams in 2007. He sports a a bushy mullet of dyed blond hair with darker sides, and looks to be telling a joke or performing a funny story. He wears a tight-fitting black leather waistcoat over a bright blue top, dark green leather gauntlets on both forearms, and loose-fitting maroon trousers. In 2001 Adams founded new band Uffington Horse to play both band & solo. In 2006 he played his last gig in his old name.
In 2007 he transitioned, debuting in his male name in Apr 2007. His 1st post-transition solo album Cat & The Fiddle was fully instrumental.
