I live in the NW corner of the city. This white oak is 15’3” in circumference. That puts it at 291 years old using the tree age estimator. For the first 2/3 of its life it was in an oak savannah forest.

An oak tree grows at the edge of a green meadow, bordered by other large oaks and smaller birches. It has leaned over a fence, so that its trunks grow parallel to the meadow and its crown reaches classically towards the bright blue and white sky.
This is one of my favourite #trees; a huge #oaktree that isn't impressed by #gravity.

Two large, snow-covered beech trees stand very close together, one with a large main trunk from which a smaller branch extends, and the other with an even larger trunk. More trees can be seen in the background. The sky is a very pale pastel orange compared to the almost bluish snow, because the sun has just risen.

とはいえ残っている大枝はそれなりに元気なようで一部の皮は巻いてきているようにも見受けられ、弱っているというより落雷や台風で上部が折れた可能性もあるのかもしれない

鳥取県八頭郡八頭町 大樹寺の有楽椿
11月から4月まで花を咲かせる有楽椿(ウラクツバキ)という品種の最古の個体で推定樹齢400年
幹周り1.85mだが大木化しづらい椿としてはかなり太く、地位類で斑点模様のついた樹皮も古さを感じさせる
