Along with the #truefalsefilmfest, Columbia, MO has a #parade the first weekend of March dubbed the "March March". My favorite shot from the parade was actually before the event began - a lone participant racing across town to make it there on time.

Evidently, in Pakistan, it's fairly novel to have your photo aggressively photoshopped to add guns, cars, helicopters and women. This charming doc centered around an eccentric shop owner providing the service.

This doc starts with an Afghani mother breaking traditional roles to learn to read, write and start her own business but the growth is halted when the US leaves the country in the hands of the Taliban who begin oppressing women again

A biographical doc about Sally Ride, the first U.S. woman in space. Focus is split between her struggles as a woman in a male-dominated field but also her closeted life as a lesbian. Expertly crafted but ironically not breaking boundaries.

For a documentary about the man that is responsible the ideas of dolphin intelligence, deprivation tanks, and LSD and Ketamine as therapeutics, the presentation was oddly straight-laced.

This doc was about a woman struggling to become the first deaf lawyer in Guadalajara, or a deaf person transitioning to a man, or their long distance relationship, or what it sounds like to be deaf. It was all over the place.

This doc is about the filmaker's mother's alcoholism and features relevant footage she'd been shooting since childhood. Maybe it was the avant garde approach or my own connection to the subject matter but this one hit me hard.

A block of short docs. My favorite of the bunch was Hope Chest where the filmmaker examined gender norms using stop motion animation on the contents of her own mother's hope chests.

This film joins a team of deep-sea researchers on a robot-enabled expedition. The nature-film inspired voice-over and dreamy visuals eventually bleed over to the government body deciding if deep-sea mining will be allowed.

5. The Wolves Always Come at Night
#truefalse always sneaks in a few fiction pieces that play with the truth and this year we have a drama co-written by a family of Mongolians who were forced to move to the city after losing half their herd.
