๐ฑโ Driving the green transition in inland navigation! New European Standard โ EN 18071:2025 โ has been published, supporting the safe use of methanol as a green fuel for inland navigation. This standard sets out harmonised technical and operational requirements for methanol bunkering along Europeโs waterways, helping ports, vessel operators and fuel suppliers adopt cleaner fuels with confidence. Methanol, which can be produced from renewable sources and burns more cleanly than traditional fuels, is an emerging solution to reduce emissions in inland shipping โ a sector crucial to European trade and climate goals. EN 18071:2025 provides clear rules for everything from transfer systems and safety equipment to operational procedures and personnel competence, ensuring bunkering operations are safe, reliable and interoperable across Europe. The work programme sets a bold course for building a strong, secure, and prosperous Europe โ with simplification and competitiveness at its core. At CEN and CENELEC, we are proud to contribute to this ambition through the development of European Standards that strengthen the hashtag#SingleMarket. ๐ The programme outlines 38 new policy objectives and 47 legislative initiatives for the coming year. One key initiative we will be closely following is the European Product Act, which will bring together the New Legislative Framework, Market Surveillance Regulation, and the Standardisation Regulation.
