The inside of a Turkish coffee cup. One kind of augury (form of reading the future in random patterns and shapes or occurrences in nature) involves reading Turkish coffee grounds. There are lots of videos on this if you're interested! Here you see a vig mound of coffee sludge leading up to the handle and then it drops off precipitously. I see a giraffe, a horse, a woman falling, a woman pulling up a child, and some snakes.

Do any of you have expertise in reading Turkish coffee grounds? I don't know man, this doesn't seem good. I've had two different, unconnected people refuse to read my coffee grounds before but neither would say why. Pic is facing the handle. #Ominous #TurkishCoffeeDay

The final result: a small blue cup if Turkish coffee with some foam/crema on top, but not a huge amount. The cezve is in the background.

And...voila! I don't know, what do you think? Folks who know this vetter than I, is that sufficient crema not to embarass my family?? It tasted good. Any tips on doing it better? Mind you, I was operating one-handed. #TurkishCoffeeDay

Here's the tricky part that's hard to film! Let it come to a boil SLOWLY. When it does, spoon a little of the froth into your cup. Do this 3 times, after each time it starts to boil. Then take it off the heat & pour it OVER THE BACK OF A SPOON into the cup w/o disturbing the crema. #TurkishCoffeeDay

Add COLD water. Stir, but then stop. Don't stir it further! The success of your coffee depends on slow heating and the development of crema on top. If you can't make proper crema mothers won't let their children marry you!! Be careful!! There's a lot riding on this. #TurkishCoffeeDay

A spoonful of sugar, in this case brown demerara sugar, against a red and white Turkish tea saucer, with the cezve in the background.

Now add the sugar to taste. I learned how to take it--sade (plain, no sugar), orta (1 sugar cube, medium), or şekerli (>1 sugar cube, as sweet as you like)--from an excavation director who died in jail. If you know, you know, & I won't say more. RIP to the man I thought I knew. #TurkishCoffeeDay

Someone from Türkiye correct me if I'm getting anything wrong. This is how I was taught to make Turkish coffee by my Urfa family/Göbekli's former cooks (& ours, &Titriş's, & a bunch of other excavs), the Yaşar family & by ARIT's former housekeeper, Elmas Hanım.
