Two of my pink fingers against the dark grey trunk of a small poplar, no more than a couple of inches/ handful of cm diameter. Some side branches and bits of dried twig extend from the trunk, and its surface holds many patches of extra tiny lichen. At this scale it is hard to distinguish the individual bodies within the patches, but in following close-ups you will see dozens of distinct bits within an area no bigger than a (short) fingernail.
A tiny patch of silver-grey lichen, flat foliose bits giving rise to tiny protruding caps- like the wide head of a cobra rising from its coils, with tiny thread-like filaments (fangs!) hanging from the inside of the inverted tiny cap/bowl shapes.Other bits have a more typical branched frond-like look. A tiny bit of gold lichen has taken hold in the centre.
Closer still view of the odd toothed inverted caps, and we can see that even some of the frond-shapes have short wiry filaments extending from the tips. A bit of mustardy orange lichen, mostly flat, branching. The surface looks smooth, even wet or rubbery. It has bits of the silvery lichen with wiry filamented tips next to/among it, and a few orange buttons that will presumably grow into more of the orange foliose bits. There is some of the grey, rough bark visible.
Another: I took #photos on #MacroMonday but just getting some posted today! How about #TextureTuesday ? or #TwiggyTuesday #TranquilTuesday
