Manuel "Manny" Culebra, twisted from Malcho from the Aladdin TV series. Malcho is based on Quetzalcoatl, which meant I needed to do some research about everyone's favorite feathered snake god. Malcho is a purple winged serpent who was mainly used as a way to introduce Iago to his hot thunderbird girlfriend, Thundra, so his main motivation was simply to take Thundra's magic (so Iago could be the hero for an episode... or actually two, as Malcho returns later on for revenge on Iago). I always thought Malcho was hot, so I wanted to do him justice as a human mage. He's from a small village where his magic which can control the weather was seen as a blessing to the people during a decades long drought they suffered. Manny didn't see it that way, feeling that his power made him a slave to the desires of the people rather than giving him the blessing of true power. When the carriage to take him to NRC arrived, he left without a word so he could finally experience some freedom. His unique magic/signature spell is Tempestad and controls the weather in a 5 kilometer radius around him for as along as his concentration holds. As for the design, I wanted Manny to look Nahua, so his skin is tan and his hair is dark. His hair has a purple tint to it as a nod to Malcho, who is purple. His earrings are similar to headdress worn by depictions of Quetzalcoatl in reliefs and codices, and his adornments are also similar to historical depictions of Mexica peoples. His necklace features a pendant with a stylized Quetzalcoatl figure on it, and the green feathers in his hair are a nod to Thundra. I'm sorry he looks a bit like Ma-Ti from Captain Planet. The reason is because he's wearing the Savanaclaw dorm uniform. I put him there because his attributes align more with Savanaclaw than Scarabia, even though he's from an Aladdin spin-off.
Hamed Zahir is the second-year vice-housewarden of Scarabia dorm and generally a man everyone trusts, though most can't pinpoint why. (The reason why is because Hamed's signature spell/unique magic uses mind control on everyone. It's fine.) Most see him as a pleasing individual with pleasing looks and a pleasing personality, but those in Scarabia do have some suspicions around his motives and the rumors that he's using a magic artifact to weaken the housewarden of Scarabia. As for why Hamed looks like that, it's because he's based on Haroud Hazi-bin, Abis Mal's sidekick and right-hand man from the Aladdin TV series. That means Hamed is also an ally and friend for Malik, as well as a potential love interest. :] Haroud is one of the few black characters among the roster of Disney spin-off characters in the 1990s, so Hamed is also black. Haroud's whole deal is flattery and keeping pleasant, thus Hamed also has that deal, though he also uses magic if he can't get what he wants out of people. His hair is white as a nod to Haroud's white turban, which I don't remember ever being removed from Haroud's head. Hamed's eyes are the color of Haroud's bisht, which is blue and green, and I gave Hamed the same earrings that Haroud wears. Overall, a pretty simple design for a simple man. He's supposed to look appealing and unassuming because he's secretly the brains behind the power. His unique magic is A Suggestion, which allows Hamed to offer "a suggestion" to the victim(s) of this spell, causing them to do something for him as long as it doesn't go against their morals. Due to how minor the effects can be, most don't even realize they've ever been charmed by his magic.
I'm reworking some of Malik's friends. This weekend I managed to rework Manny and Hamed, but more are to come in the future, hopefully! :)
