π Black phoebe (Sayornis nigricans) The black phoebe is a small, dark bird in the tyrant-flycatcher family with a sooty-black body and a bright white belly. It has a thin, black bill and often flicks its tail. Found in the Americas, from southwestern USA to Argentina, it favours habitats close by water sources. It perches conspicuously, then darts out to catch insects in flight. It often returns to the same perch. Its distinctive "chip" call and tail-wagging are characteristic behaviours. Six subspecies are commonly recognized. Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) π·: Photo by stephmcblack via Pixabay https://pixabay.com/photos/black-phoebe-bird-branch-perched-6160613/ XQUI
