Part 2 of my Strava race summary. Text reads: Picked up Wade at mile 28.5. He was suffering. Gave him salt and went full Coach on him. Yelled at him to keep going until the end (as I do). We finished together. Both first-time ultras. The Marines gave me the marathon medal too because in their words, "you ran the full too" 😂 What an experience. Younger me would not be able to comprehend what I did today. Present me can barely comprehend it. That I'm able to do this...amazing. Humbling. Awe-striking. Mind-boggling. "No human is limited" -Kipchoge I never thought I would one day call myself an ultra marathoner. Never say never. 52.5 mile week, waddup 🤙
Part 1 of my summary of the race on Strava. Text reads: HELLO, I AM NOW AN ULTRA MARATHONER. WHAT an experience. Honestly...I feel pretty good. Was going for finish, not time, so I'm pleased with this effort. Plenty of walking, and that is A-OK. No regrets about not doing the full, this was the race I needed to remind myself WHY I run stupidly long distances. Def went out too fast because I suck. I did NOT need to do a sub-2 half pace SMH. Hit the typical mental wall around mile 14-15ish and told myself I had to make it to the Blue Mile. Walked the whole Blue Mile (mile 17ish). Cried a little. It was A LOT. Charlotte, my saviour, at Mile 22ish with the frozen wash cloth. The people with the Fla-Vor-Ice pops at mile 24.5ish, just before the bridge: YOU ARE AWESOME. Ice pops are going on my list of ABSOLUTE YES during a race. I LOVE MY MOM, MILE 27 WITH THE COKE. Picked up Wade at mile 28.5. He was suffering. Gave him salt and went full Coach on him. Yelled at him to keep going until
Me with Wade, the random guy I stopped to help. I went into full Coach Mode (yelling encouragement, making sure he was taking in nutrition, etc.) to get him over the finish line. We both completed our first Ultra marathons.
I have a lot of processing to do, but really, my Strava novella says most of it.
This was the race I NEEDED to remind me why I do this. I'm so glad and thankful I could do it. I feel good. This was amazing.
