This is what some countries owed to the United Nations by the end of of April 2025 because they did not yet pay their membership fees ('assessments') to the #UNbudget.

What's important: it's not a budgetary crisis yet, "just" cash-flow crisis.

This may become a budgetary AND cash crisis when the US starts negotiating the #UNbudget in such a way that a majority of member states will reject US proposals, leading to a US refusal to pay.

Look out for the autumn.

The contribution of 194M USD makes Germany the 4th largest donor to the regular #UNBudget. When adding voluntary contributions, Germany is the 2nd largest contributor overall.

The #UNGA is about to adopt the #UNbudget for the 2025.

This may have been the last #FifthCommittee process that went through without major problems.

As of next year, #China will pay 20% into the UN budget, close to the 22% of the 🇺🇸. And Trump takes office—likely wanting to undermine UN finances.

Having studied UNRWA's finances, administration, and accountability reporting, it took me a while to understand the special status of its "area staff".

In #UNbudget negotiations, where UNRWA has a small part, those ~30k staff were usually just a footnote, as only international staff are mentioned.

The #UNbudget (Regular budget) for 2022 was adopted at $3.4 billion: press.un.org/en/2022/gaab...

However, "total expenses" of the #UN for 2022 were at $7.7 billion (Source: A/78/5, Vol. I).

This means that the UN Regular Budget now covers only ~44% of the organizations expenses.

As the #UN mourns >100 killed #UNRWA staff in #Gaza today, the 'irony' is that, in official #UNbudget documents, those local area staff aren't even in the official UN organizational chart.

They're just mentioned in a footnote.
