This week the #UNCCW Group of Governmental Experts are meeting to discuss #autonomousweapons and elements of an instrument. This work must lead to negotiations of new international law. We hope to see states emphasise the need for meaningful human control over the use of force.
"It is precisely because of the autonomous nature of these technologies that human control over them needs to be explicitly stated and required."

#UNCCW #GGE lethal autonomous weapons systems #LAWS starting now.
@amnesty.org believes that states should consider removing the word ‘lethal’ as it is too restrictive, and lethality is an effect, not a characteristic.
IHRL and IHL govern the use of all weapons, including less lethal weapons.
With only 10 days left in 2025 for the GGE on #LAWS to meet – it’s time for states to deliver on their work to safeguard humanity from #AutonomousWeapons.
We hope to see progress at this week's #UNCCW meeting.
