This photo was taken on Aiolou street, in what used to be the garment district, small business, and market area of downtown Athens, and is now increasingly geared towards the tourist industry. There’s a slice of restaurant to the left of the image, but mostly it’s of marble-clad entranceway and pale yellow wall, and paving stones. At the base of the wall is a broken piece of marble sign. It reads: ΓΙΓΝΕΣΘΑΙ (GIGNESTHAI), which means something like “to become” - it’s one of those words that can mean many different things depending on context.
