Screenshot from r/AskDocs 36 weeks pregnant, history of stillbirth, doctor leaving for a month with no alternative OB I am 30F and 36 weeks pregnant. I have a history of going into labor early and have had two stillbirths, two second trimester miscarriages, and one ruptured ectopic. My doctor has just informed me today that he will be going on vacation from the 37th week to the 42nd week of my pregnancy. He is the only doctor at the practice and canceled my remaining appointments. He referred me to an alternative practice for my remaining appointments, and I contacted them and they do not accept my insurance and denied me as a patient. I called my doctor back about this and he responded “uh oh! That’s no good!” and told me he needed to get off the call to perform a c section. I called 20 other practices in my area and they all turned me away due to being high risk and so far along in my pregnancy. I called the hospital where I deliver and asked them what my options were and they gave me a list of five offices, but all were practices that had already turned me away. The planned parenthood in my area doesn’t provide this type of care and told me to call OBs in my area. I left my doctor another voicemail and he never called back. What do I do? How do I obtain care for four weeks? How do I prevent a stillbirth without care?
For the amount the US spends on healthcare, we should have a system where this high-risk pregnant woman isn't SOL when one doc goes on vacation
